Well, the world cup is finally over (although Laurence would tell you it ended two weeks ago), and despite the gloom that England (or France for Vanessa) were nowhere near the final, we did manage to create a few cheers in the Theme Group office with our footie sweepstake.
It's been a series of shock results that saw some big teams exit early on, much to the dismay of those who pulled them in the sweepstake and thought they were on to a winner. It also saw some teams punching above their weight, cruelly getting the hopes up of those who seemed to have wasted their £2 bet at the start of the competition (my Uruguay side, for example).
But in the end it was down to Amy, who drew Holland and was eyeing up the prize pot to spend on clothes, and Chris, who had drawn South Korea and only took second option Spain to annoy Ed.
And annoy him it did, because after a largely uneventful match that was closer to boxing than football, Spain grabbed the winning goal in extra time.
Congratulations go to both winner and runner-up!

Most people think that drawing the winning team from a hat is pure luck, but this time it was all about skill; I practised for two weeks solid with a professional coach and the hard work finally paid off. I'll be putting the winnings towards paying off the coach...

Mark and I have just popped over to deliver delicious goodies to Jane Belcher at 28 Beaumont Street, who correctly told us that Mark had cut the ribbon at the chapel's opening.
Each Who's the Fatty? winner gets one large cake and a selection of cup cakes, and for a special twist the surgery asked that the large cake was personalised for Dr Ferguson (pictured below receiving her cake from me), who was celebrating her birthday.
Jane tucked into the cup cakes with a satisfied "Mmmm" noise, and her colleagues (and me and Mark) followed suit. They saved the big birthday cake for later that afternoon as they were going off for a boat trip.
In all, it certainly seemed the surgery staff loved the fact Jane had won the treats - it certainly gave them something good to enjoy for elevenses!

I thought, having been Mark's brother for more than 26 years now, that I knew him pretty well - his likes, dislikes, hobbies etc.
So imagine my surprise when I was flicking through a calendar in our office to check a date and found what I am convinced is Mark taking part in the frankly bizarre Spanish sport of baby leaping - an event where men dressed as devils leap over babies to cleanse them of evil.
Now, I know we're based in a chapel but I think he's taken things too far this time.
Mark says it's not him, and that he has a solid alibi for the date the picture was taken, but I'm not convinced.

I'm sorry I can't see the likeness and besides there is no way Mark could jump an inch let alone a row of babies. But if it does prove to be him I'd call that very irresponsible parenting!
